First of all, name your experiment, (be specific). Then you identify your test page and your conversion page. Choose the option of installing and validating javascript tags yourself.

Next, paste your control script at the beginning of your test page source code, (before tag) and paste your tracking script at the end of your test page source code, (before tag).

If you are using WordPress for your landing pages, use Google Website Optimizer For WordPress plugin so that you can add your tracking code easily on any of your posts or pages.

After that, look for the sections in your page that you would like to vary as part of your test, surround the source code of each section of your original content with the given tags and give each section a unique name.

Now, paste conversion script at the end of your conversion page source code, (before tag). When you are ready, you can validate all codes to make sure they are all placed correctly. If there are errors, you will get an error message. Then you preview it before launching.
